Training at Congers Fire Department

Training is the backbone of the fire service. It prepares our members to operate safely, effectively, and with confidence in any situation. From hose line operations and pump controls to search and rescue, vehicle extrication, and technical skills, every drill ensures that our firefighters are ready when the community needs them most.

Training also builds teamwork. Realistic, hands‑on scenarios foster trust, sharpen communication, and create the camaraderie that’s essential under pressure. This page spotlights recent drills that keep our skills sharp and our team tight.

O&R Gas Safety

Our firehouse hosted Orange & Rockland’s Emergency Response Unit for an in‑depth session on gas safety. The training mixed classroom and hands‑on work. It was valuable for new members and a timely refresher for veterans, and it strengthened our working relationship with O&R.

Hose Line & Pump Operations

Members practiced deploying and operating attack lines, nozzle techniques, and pump operations. Crews worked on smooth water application, maintaining pressure, and coordinating between nozzle teams and engineers to ensure a continuous, effective fire attack.

Vehicle Extrication

Hands‑on extrication: new members learned to use the Hurst Tools and the basics of vehicle extrication while seasoned members refined tactics they don’t often get to practice—stabilization, door removals, and creating access for simulated patient rescue.

Ice Rescue

Ice rescue drill covering multiple tactics for cold‑water emergencies. Thanks to Congers‑Valley Cottage VAC for EMS support and Clarkstown PD for drone overwatch and coordination during evolutions.
